Winter is coming... sorta.

Another week of posting a day late. My apologies, I'll send your refunds in the mail.

I spent a good deal of time this week working on an IT project for a client at work. We were setting up an entire network infrastructure for a new location of theirs, as well as updating a bunch of their current infrastructure. For certain clients, that might not be all too bad- but when your client is one that highly relies on uptime and can only be down for so long, it's another game altogether. Anyways, we only finished up past midnight once between the two days we spent.

That said, I did witness a pretty neat weather phenomenon. As we were in this new building (that was still being finished up inside), we stood in the front lobby, discussing IT jargon and plans. As we did, I looked out the large window wall on the front of the building and watched as the sunny morning skies we arrived in began to give way to cold and swift dark skies from the south. In a matter of seconds, I watched a billowing of winds and rain literally roll across the land and began rushing through the area as though it were a hurricane. I watched a small tree planted out front turn almost a perfect 90 degree angle in the wind, and somehow it held on. I watched rains, then snow, then hail beat through the area like debris from a tornado- and all in a matter of a few minutes; then, it mellowed out and left behind a more regular wind and light precipitation.

Although there were complications galore with the plans we laid for this project, this being my first "business trip", I was rather pleased at the outcome. We got a lot done, and I learned much. That said, between the business trip and the offroading adventure, I spent a combined 6 days away from the wife. I know, I know. There may well be equal voices saying both, "boo-hoo, six days. Try a few months, huh?" and "What I wouldn't give to have an opportunity like that", and I readily confess my good fortunes in light of both of those comments, and others alike. Even still, it was truly nice to finally come home and see that smiling face again.

In personal projects this week, I spent a whole day taking parts from the best (and the worst) of four different computers to build a firewall. As is typical of my luck, I would have the PC completely build, cables managed, and ready to go- only to realize there was one vital part that didn't work, or that one thing could be just the slightest bit better using the other motherboard, and so on and so on. But I did, in fact, build my firewall. I need only await some parts shipping, now... and set up some programming... and learn how to even use pfsense... and it should all just click together super clean... just like building the dang machine went... heh, yeah it should be interesting.

But at the end of this past week, I am now moving into some few weeks of being involved in yet another big project at work. Up for a quick breath of air, and back under I go. Let's see... thought of the week... Eat your vegetables. Have a good one! ...Here, enjoy a very super useful website. It's infinitely more important than this one.
