Well, I've had no shortage of those, this past week.
Last-last Saturday I installed one indoor and three outdoor lighting fixtures for my mother. Was fun, took most of the day, and looks good!
Monday, I spearheaded my first big network cutover project at work. I was pleased at how well it went, and how the process continues to go.
Friday I installed a network rack in my utility closet- and to say it barely fit would be an understatement. To my amazement, somehow, I not only fit the rack inside, but two battery backups, a battery backup extension unit (all of which could not fit on the bottom racks, so they...sag...), a 48-port POE switch, A PowerEdge, three other servers, a phone, a PTP antenna, two laptops, and a radio complete with a charging base. And somehow decent airflow.
Saturday, I helped build a shed at my in-laws. Although we only finished the base floor, it took us several hours, two trips back to fetch more tools from my place, and some difficult drilling and precise sawing. Still, pretty proud of what got accomplished with it, so far.
And in weeks coming, I'm also helping route and install Ethernet at a family member's house. All said and done, I frankly enjoy having these projects to do. For me, I am the type to loves to keep myself busy with these kinds of projects that involve building, repair, or just IT in general. And when it's helping a friend of family member? All the more fun! But I've also had to pace myself, because sometimes I take on too much at once and end up paying for it. Perhaps it was partially for that reason I decided to go on a drive today with my wife. A storm had rolled in that began as wind, then changed to rain, and then snow. We drove over the mountain pass, into the valley, and then into the hills and valleys beyond. The scene was frankly pretty beautiful, and it was just a nice drive.
But what thought to really leave with? Well, Spring has officially begun, and as such, the tired cold of winter is beginning to fade. Even in this climate where I live, where winter holds on long and persistent with icy hands, it's grasp weakens as the sun gradually lengthens its stay, and banishes away the cold. As everything is generally "reborn" this time of year, what new opportunities are "reborn" for you? Do new adventures await in the months ahead? Plans to take care of that thing you've put off for far too long? Of course, in all things, pace yourself and don't run faster than you have strength; but indeed, find and seek new adventures in these months ahead- in whatever way is most fitting for you- and no matter what difficulties this year may continue to throw upon us, I think you'll find rewarding fulfillment in accomplishing those things.
Until next week, enjoy the slowly fading grip of winter!
