And here we are, another Christmas day come and gone. And this year was different than others- mostly because of some timing.
My grandma passed away this last week, and her graveside service was held on the 22nd. It was one of the few funerals I've been a pallbearer for, and frankly, it was even more beautiful a scene than I imagined... which sound frankly perplexing, given the situation. I've said it before, but I see death and passing as, well, exactly that- a passing t. . .

For whatever reason in my life, it seems like almost every other year, Christmas time hails some unfortunate events in my life. One year things are great, the next a travesty befalls me and/or my family... *Movie announcer voice* Until now.
I'm relatively young, and so saying the phrase "with all of my experience" may come off as presumptuous and "greenhorned", but I'll ask your indulgence all the same, and ask you accept that everyone is on a continuum of progressio. . .

And I though last week brought up nostalgic memories; that was nothing like the wall of bricks that hit me this week when I was out on the job. There I was running errands, and I before getting in my car, I look off to my right and see something I had long since put out of my mind- the green banks next to the river where I would play while my mom would pay the water bill at the city office. I suppose I felt like Scrooge as he was brought back to his long-forgotten childhood memories; I trod. . .

It was a good week for me, if for no other reason than I got to catch up with two of my friends. Time spent with them is no insignificant thing.
This week, as the title clues into, I attended a funeral. It was my wife's uncle, and she was only a little more familiar with his family than I was; and yet, in spite of the circumstances (and closing remarks that both went on too long and included words that would have been better left unsaid), it was nice, because it was a gathering o. . .

Many of my hours this week were spent in taking a less-than ideal server I was using for both a camera server and UniFi controller, and replacing it with virtual machines. The solution to these tasks was basic; but when you barely figured out how to set things up in the first place, and you fail to document how you did it, the consequence is days' worth of failing over and over. But I am happy to report that, after many long hours into long nights this week, I accomplished what I set out to. . .

It's been a busy week for me. I've spent a lot of time trying to get things to work on my home network, and also a lot of time doing some after-hours projects at work.
One such project was making a scary but seemingly good leap of faith. I finally put Pop OS on my daily driver laptop, and it's doing pretty well. It's honestly a little fun in some ways to try and accomplish all the things I was able to do with my Windows machine, and it's enjoyable just how customizable of an exp. . .

It's been a week, and not necessarily an easy one.
As I was finishing up my on-call duty at work, I had one last need to make another early morning run an hour or so out. That, in and of itself wasn't too bad; the hard part this week derived from a series of small blunders that ricocheted. That morning, in solving that issue, I did indeed fix the problem, but failed to pinpoint the cause. Then, on Wednesday, I was going to go home early, as I had already put in significant hours. . .

I exaggerate on the title; despite what tales I tell, I have gotten better sleep this week than many weeks several years ago when I worked at a grocery store.
This week started off with a bang. At my work, it was my rotation to be "on call", and there wasn't a moment to lose come monday Morning when I had to drive out an hour or so away, early in the morning to restore a school's entire network by plugging in a slipped power cable. That was fun enough, but then I drove another ho. . .

What a week it was, partly evidenced by the fact that I forgot to post something until here at 5 AM on Tuesday morning.
I usually associate Halloween and late autumn with good times and fond memories, but this year has been a little different. I've had a friend who had to make a very difficult decision regarding a marriage; I've had a mother who tripped and injured herself on Halloween; I had to replace a leaky toilet shutoff valve; this morning I'm having to make an hour drive tr. . .

It's been another fun adventure this week. And keeping in tradition, I'm posting more than a day late.
At work today, I encountered the fun differences between WDS and FOG. Say what you will about FOG and getting it to play nice, at least it plays nice across other VLANS! Personal rant over.
The main adventuring this week was our weekend getaway. My brother-in-law has taken up a fun side project this season as an actor at a haunted attraction. Naturally, then, we to. . .

Another week of posting a day late. My apologies, I'll send your refunds in the mail.
I spent a good deal of time this week working on an IT project for a client at work. We were setting up an entire network infrastructure for a new location of theirs, as well as updating a bunch of their current infrastructure. For certain clients, that might not be all too bad- but when your client is one that highly relies on uptime and can only be down for so long, it's another game altogeth. . .

This weekend has proven so far to be quite an adventure.
My brother, my father, our neighbor, his son, and I had a plan to go offroading in middle-of-nowhere Utah this weekend. It started out simple enough- before we went to our intended actual area where we were staying and offroading, we made a sidestop at some nearby hills where we hadn't really gone yet but meant to. My father beat us up there and the scene was indeed magical- mists were billowing over the ridges, as we were . . .

Much of my free time this week was spent building two new systems- one being a slightly older PC to run Windows XP (for gaming some old favorites) and a file server. Building the XP machine had its frustrating moments, and I had to reinstall the OS at least a few times on two different machines, but in the end, it wasn't all that bad- at least compared to the file server.
I have dedicated hours and hours to building and fine tuning that machine practically all week. With the left. . .

I'm only three blogs in and I'm already losing my creativity on titles. Alas, such is my fate, and you'll have to take a rain check for a better title next week. Part of my excuse entails the fact that I am learning how to include an RSS feed from scratch and by hand. Weirdly more complicated than you might imagine. But I think I've done it... see if it works, and give me feedback on your findings. Include graphs and charts so we can figure out the enemy's weakest link... okay, I'. . .

I've decided, at least for the time, that I will dedicate these blog posts to reaching out to family and friends who might benefit from reading. I'll be the first to admit, I don't know if there's much benefit to reading my words, but my point is if it helps, then it helps, and gleam what seems entertaining, uplifting, or amusing to you, personally.
To begin, I suppose I'll revisit the same practice I upheld over six years ago (dang, has it been that long already?) and throw out a. . .

Well, in case anyone ever has actually visited this website in the many iterations I've created since its original inception, welcome back. And now, to all curious minds: go ahead, ask what this website is for. To answer that, at this moment: not much. If it's any proof, I had to completely rebuild my server and setup of my website because I made the rookie mistake of forgetting to migrate my SQL database.
But this hales to the age old saying... or the not-quite-decade-age-old s. . .
